Military Service-Real Warriors and Hero’s

Military Service runs strong in our family, both our fathers and Uncles have served, The Gunsmith served, His 2 youngest daughters and their spouses have or are serving now.

Our Marine sent us a link from “Terminal Lance” (posted on Mrs Gunsmith FB page). It’s a poignant essay about the war and withdrawal by an experienced service member in Afghanistan, well worth reading. There is also a heart wrenching account on FB posted by a Marine who encountered a service member on a flight. The service member had accompanied casualties home and was on a flight to present the family with the flag that covered their coffin.

Many on FB and TV are proclaiming themselves or others “warriors” or “hero’s” for a multitude of reasons. While Mrs Gunsmith has no desire to deride or degrade them, I would hope that they are careful not to diminish the word, but to give the true Warriors the respect they are due. We should be a grateful citizenry, whose very freedom is due to these who fought and gave up so much for it.

Further, we, as citizens, need to stand up for our hard won freedoms and constitutional rights. We should not behave like scared sheep, complying under threat of ostracism or punishment by tyrannical leaders overstepping their authority to trample on the flag and constitution so many have fought and died for.
