I Pledge Allegiance, To The Flag

I grew up standing with my hand over my heart, pledging allegiance to the flag, every morning before school. The teacher and the class stood together, One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. None of us thought to question why, or sit it out, we did it because that’s how school started each day. In my research, I’ve found that’s no longer the case. Gone the way of cursive writing, I guess.

The modern trend of athletes disrespecting our national anthem and flag makes no sense to many Americans, myself included. To me, disrespecting our anthem and flag extends to all those who’ve served and died for our country, and I am appalled. Have we truly forgotten freedom and what it means to us as a country?

Boycotting professional sports, is a course of action some have chosen. Quite frankly, no one would notice if I boycotted because I have never been a professional sports fan, but I do applaud the gesture. I’m open to suggestions…
